Programs
Building & Grounds / Beautification Committees
The mission of the Building & Grounds / Beautification group is to maintain and improve our church building and property. This includes such things as: building and grounds maintenance and upgrades. Responsibilities also include oversight of all major and minor modifications to the property. Our goal is to lovingly tend to our Father's house. We strive to make it a visually pleasing and comfortable place for all who gather here.
Christian Education Committee
The Christian Education Committee offers a variety of programs including Sunday School for all ages, Sunday evening studies, Vacation Bible School for children age 3 through 6th grade, weekly Bible studies, annual church retreat, and other special programs. These programs are designed to aid understanding of the Bible and prepare God’s people for Christian living and ministry.
Mentoring Program
KIDS HOPE USA is a national mentoring program that began in 1995 by matching volunteers from 3 churches in Michigan with 3 neighborhood schools. There are now programs in over 35 states in all different types of schools including rural, urban and suburban environments. Marietta Church joined the program 9 years ago in partnership with Hardin Valley Elementary. The program is based on one simple ideology - One-on-one, positive attention from a responsible, caring adult will make a big difference in the life of an at-risk child. KIDS HOPE USA mentors spend just one hour per week, reading, talking, playing and listening to a child at school. By helping the child feel loved and valued, they help that child to learn, grow and succeed.
Worship Committee
Our Worship Committee here at Marietta is involved in many aspects of church life. As the name suggests, we coordinate with the pastor on the order of worship and also details such as setting communion dates and scheduling special services for Easter and Christmas. Have you ever wondered who finds volunteers to staff the nursery, light the candles, ring the bell, and collect the offering for worship services? Well, that is also your Worship Committee at work.
The Worship Committee plays a big part in the social life of Marietta, too. Our members plan and host bridal and baby showers and regular potluck suppers during the year. A lot of planning goes into finding programs for our potlucks that will appeal to all ages and contribute to our growth as Christians and the fellowship we share with one another.
Probably the biggest project the Worship Committee tackles each year is the annual Fall Festival. This has grown to be a favorite event for the Hardin Valley community as well as for the church. Participation has increased steadily over the years, and many of our neighbors in the community turn out to meet, laugh, eat, and play with us every October. It is certainly one of the highlights of the year for Marietta and the community.
As you can see, there are many ways in which the Worship Committee serves our church. Anyone who feels a calling to participate in any of the activities listed here is encouraged to come join us at one of our regular meetings, which take place in January, March, May, July, September, and November on the second Sunday of the month. The Worship Committee offers many opportunities to use your gifts and talents, and we welcome all who wish to join us in serving the Lord and Marietta in this way.
Finance Committee
Finance committee works with the various committees and ministry endeavors to develop an annual budget and then reviews the progress throughout the year in meeting the financial needs of ministry within the congregation.
